Preparing for Door Installation Day

Clear the working area

Remove movable furniture, decorations and small items close to both sides of the opening. The fitter needs room to handle the door safely and check how it opens.

Before the appointment

• Confirm the correct doors are on site if customer supplied
• Keep handles, hinges and locks together
• Finish or clearly identify planned floor levels
• Provide access to all rooms involved
• Point out any hidden pipes, cables or known wall issues
• Keep pets and children away from the immediate work area
• Share parking or access restrictions in advance

Do not paint over fitting problems

If an existing frame is moving, twisted or badly damaged, decoration should not hide it before the door is assessed. It is better to identify the condition first.

Final checks happen after fitting

Once hung, the door should be checked for smooth movement, consistent gaps, latch operation and hardware function. Any final adjustment is easier while the fitter is still working on the opening.
