Check the opening before the product

External doors have to deal with the transition between inside and outside. Measure the opening, check the threshold and understand how the existing frame meets the wall and floor before choosing the replacement.

External door checklist

• Opening width and height
• Frame condition and depth
• Finished floor levels inside and outside
• Threshold and drainage around the entrance
• Door swing and clear opening space
• Glazing and privacy
• Locks, handles and other hardware
• Weather seals and contact around the frame

Look for the cause of an existing problem

A draught, leak or door that will not close may come from alignment, a damaged seal, threshold movement or the frame rather than the door leaf itself. Replacing the correct part starts with identifying the cause.

Photos that help

Send one photo from inside, one from outside, a close view of the threshold and any damaged or poorly fitting area. That gives a much better starting point than a single front-on image.
